Streams Where the State Proposes to Remove Whole Body Contact Recreation Use
Sewage treatment plants would not have to disinfect wastewater discharged to these streams—unless the state hears from the public that the streams have been used for recreation. Any recreational use since 1975 would require that the state protect that use by requiring disinfection of sewage wastewater. So your information about recreational use could ensure that the streams are protected—now and in the future.
If you have used any of these streams for recreation -- or know of other people who have used them -- please let the state know by sending in this Recreational Use Comment Form (Word document). Clicking on a stream name below will allow you to open/save a map of the stream in its context (showing nearby towns and/or roads), courtesy of Google Earth and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Including a printed copy of the map, with your marking of places you have used the stream, together with the Recreational Use Comment Form will make your comments much more useful -- and powerful -- to the state in its decision making.
After sending your information to the state, please also email us at dsherburne@moenviron.org, so we know which streams have had comments submitted on them. Thanks for your help!
(Note: Water body identification number (WBID) follows stream name in parentheses. Streams that cross county lines are listed under both counties.)
