Who We Are

The Missouri Coalition for the Environment is Missouri’s independent, citizens environmental organization for clean water, clean air, clean energy, and a healthy environment.

Our Mission

The Missouri Coalition for the Environment works to protect and restore the environment through education, public engagement, and legal action.

The Coalition began its work in 1969 in St. Louis as the region’s first independent citizens’ group created to address a broad range of environmental policy issues.  A volunteer Board of Directors determines the specific priorities and goals of the organization.

We are a trusted environmental advocacy agency, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a state-wide partner supporting allied organizations and initiatives around the state. We deliver vital information to thousands of Missourians on issues that affect our food, our water, our air, our health, and the environment.

We promote a common sense approach to protecting and restoring the environment  and upholding individuals’ rights to make informed, independent decisions about environmental issues and policy.

Renew Missouri

On September 1st, 2011, Renew Missouri, previously a project of the Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE) focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency, became a project of Earth Island Institute (EII), a nonprofit organization with a global environmental mission. MCE and EII see the advantage of new and emerging opportunities for support of clean energy work in Missouri.  As a project of Earth Island Institute, Renew Missouri will continue its work of transforming Missouri to be a leading state in energy efficiency and renewable energy by 2016.  MCE and Renew Missouri will continue to work in harmony with each other toward clean energy solutions for Missouri.

Both organizations look forward to future collaborations.

Renew Missouri retains its staff and office in Columbia, Missouri. Contact information for Renew Missouri can be found at www.RenewMO.org.
