Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth are calling for all area residents to attend the Public Hearing on the Creve Coeur Lake – Maryland Heights Hearing on “Maryland Pointe” Floodplain Project October 11th.

We have opposed this ill conceived “retail destination” development from the beginning, finding it fails to justify the destruction of one of the most treasured natural areas in the region at the area’s only natural lake. When many of our region’s “retail destinations” now sit empty- shopping malls, strip malls, business parks, office plazas, and even warehouses – it seems like a foolish plan indeed and one that once done, will be hard to un-do.

Maryland Heights Misses the Point

See the Post Dispatch’s story on Maryland Heights’ plan for transforming fertile, food-growing floodplain into a paved, retail development. They call it “Maryland Pointe”. Lorin gets to the real point, “”To add hundreds of thousands of square feet of impervious surfaces to an area that is naturally inclined to flood from the inside will only make the flooding worse.” Plus, from what economy will all the shoppers come? The economy that created this plan no longer exists. See: Howard Bend dft land use plan 09APR02 from a decade ago and the latest incarnation MarylandPointe-HowardBend.
