Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth are calling for all area residents to attend the Public Hearing on the Creve Coeur Lake – Maryland Heights Hearing on “Maryland Pointe” Floodplain Project October 11th.
We have opposed this ill conceived “retail destination” development from the beginning, finding it fails to justify the destruction of one of the most treasured natural areas in the region at the area’s only natural lake. When many of our region’s “retail destinations” now sit empty- shopping malls, strip malls, business parks, office plazas, and even warehouses – it seems like a foolish plan indeed and one that once done, will be hard to un-do.

Politicians make hay of Missouri River flooding to gut river restoration programs- which, ironically, will cause more flooding and cost taxpayers more over time. Geez!

The Post Dispatch reports that Doe Run Resources Corp. is keeping their operations in Herculaneum, Missouri and siting their new, cleaner lead smelting process in the Mississippi River town that has hosted their facility for decades. We applaud this move because the new process will be significantly cleaner in its air emissions than the old smelter that is scheduled to be dismantled in 2013.
